The University of Chicago's Documentary Films Group is the oldest student film society in the United States. Anna Gwin Pickens was born on August 23, 1901 in Mississippi. Pickens entered the University of Chicago in 1919, graduating in 1923 with a Ph.B. As an undergraduate she was active in several campus organizations including: Esoteric, Nu Pi Sigma, Dramatic Club, Portfolio, and the Y.W.C.A.
